The secrets of Artemisia

Artemisia Gentileschis livshistorie og malerier av mektige kvinner i stort format har blitt et symbol for #metoo-bevegelsen. Rundt 80 av verkene hennes har overlevd fram til i dag. På grunn av den økende oppmerksomheten og forskningen knyttet til kunstnerens karriere, har noen nye verk blitt lagt til hennes samlede verker i nyere tid.

Gentileschi signerte eller daterte ikke alle sine verk. Mange malerier er tilskrevet henne på bakgrunn av stilen. I miniserien “The secrets of Artemisia” følger vi restaureringen av maleriet «Den angrende Maria Magdalena”.

Artemisia Gentileschi’s life story and large-scale paintings of powerful women have become a symbol of the #metoo movement. Around 80 of her works have survived to this day. Due to the increasing attention and research related to the artist’s career, some new works have been added to her body of work in recent times.

Gentileschi did not sign or date all her works. Many paintings are attributed to her on the basis of style. In the mini-series ‘The secrets of Artemisia’, we follow the restoration of the painting ‘The Penitent Mary Magdalene’.
