A K Dolven

A K Dolven regnes som en av Norges mest betydningsfulle kunstnere. Tid og natur er gjennomgående temaer i kunsten hennes.

A K Dolven har jobbet internasjonalt som kunstner i over fire tiår. Med sine videoinstallasjoner og filmprojeksjoner, malerier og skulpturer, fotografier, lydverk og tekst, utforsker Dolven det universelle gjennom det intime.

Til tross for en stor variasjon i materialer, formater og uttrykk, inneholder hennes arbeider noen tilbakevendende tematikker: naturens og kroppens forhold til tid og kultur.

I forbindelse med utstillingen Amasone på Nasjonalmuseet fikk Hacienda oppdraget med å produsere et portrett av kunstneren A K Dolven. Resultatet ble filmen Time is material, en poetisk refleksjon over kunstnerens egen filosofi:

“Å være billedkunster er for meg at du har en tanke som formidles gjennom et materiale. Og da kan det like gjerne være en film, maleri, marmor, stål, fjellet, kulde, varme … og oppi alt dette er det én ting som jeg er veldig bevisst på hele tiden, og det er tid. Tid er et materiale i seg selv.”

A K Dolven is widely recognized as one of Norway’s most important contemporary artists. Throughout her practice, time and nature emerge as persistent, intertwined themes.

For over four decades, A K Dolven has worked internationally, creating video installations and film projections, paintings, sculptures, photographs, sound works, and text pieces. Across these varied media, she consistently explores the universal through the lens of the intimate.

Despite the breadth of her materials, formats, and expressions, Dolven’s work revolves around enduring questions: the relationship between nature and the human body, and between time and culture.

In connection with the exhibition Amasone at the National Museum, Hacienda was commissioned to create a portrait film of A K Dolven. The result is Time is Material — a poetic reflection on the artist’s philosophy:

“To be a visual artist, for me, is to convey a thought through a material. That material might be a film, a painting, marble, steel, the mountain, cold, or warmth… And through it all, there is one element I am always acutely aware of: time. Time is a material in itself.”
